Resolution

While vaccine mandates are an infringement on freedom, some are justified due to their big payoff in lives saved.

 

For the affirmative:

Ilya Somin is a professor of law at George Mason University. He is the author of Free to Move: Foot Voting, Migration and Political Freedom?, Democracy and Political Ignorance: Why Smaller Government Is Smarter, and The Grasping Hand: Kelo v. City of New London and the Limits of Eminent Domain, and coauthor of A Conspiracy against Obamacare: The Volokh Conspiracy and the Health Care Case. Somin’s interests include democracy and political knowledge, federalism, and property rights. As a member of the Volokh Conspiracy, affiliated with Reason magazine, he is a prominent blogger.

 

For the negative:

Angela McArdle is a paralegal from Los Angeles, California. She is the current chair of the Libertarian Party of Los Angeles County, and the former secretary of the Libertarian Party of California. In 2017, McArdle ran as the Libertarian Candidate in the special election for California's 34th District in the United States House of Representatives. She ran for the same position in 2018's primary election and placed third, with over 5,500 votes. McArdle is a member of the Libertarian Party Mises Caucus and the California state coordinator for the caucus. In November of 2020, McArdle Announced her intent to run for chair of the Libertarian National Committee.
